Helping at-Risk, Low Income Families and Women to End Period Poverty
Non-profit organization, Project Marilyn, donated feminine hygiene products, to serve low income families and women, with its recent The Just One Project ‘Pop Up and Give’ on March 20, 2021. Products were distributed at the following locations: Basic High School, Spring Valley High School, Clark High School, Kenny Guinn Middle School, Cortney Jr. High School, Von Toble Middle School, and Orr Middle School.
Project Marilyn provides feminine supplies to those in need with monthly bags containing tampons, pads and hygiene wipes to last thru their menstrual cycle. Since its inception in April 2019, the non-profit has partnered with more than 35 shelters and agencies, such as Communities in Schools, Westcare, Hoving Home, Shine Light, Casa de Luz and the Las Vegas Rescue Mission.
Each Project Marilyn bag contains enough tampons, maxi pads and wipes to carry a person through their monthly cycle. This method is helpful for those that may be homeless, home insecure or living in a shelter; and are unable to store a large quantity of products.
“1 in 4 women have period poverty. Joining with The Just One Project, gives us direct access to providing support for those individuals who need it most, says Wendi Schweigart, founder of Project Marilyn. “Our hope is that we will be able to help women have dignity with their period. PERIOD. Project Marilyn values partnerships, like the Pop Up and Gives, to be able to help #endperiodpoverty in Southern Nevada.”
